DMAIL's Input: ICP, TON Ecological Intellectual Discourse AMA Summary

Opening Remarks and Project Introduction

Hi everyone, my name is Daniel James, and I’m the COO of Dmail Network. Dmail Network is a top SocialFi project that delivers AI-powered decentralized cross-chain messaging and notifications directly to wallets and DIDs that connect to our dApp.

At Dmail, we’re revolutionizing communication with blockchain technology and AI. We’re building an AI agent and assistant to make interactions smoother, and next quarter, we’re rolling out relayer nodes as part of our DePIN initiative.

We’re active on 24 different blockchain networks and support logins via Worldcoin and Gmail. We have over 14 million registered users and average around 1.5 million active users each month. Our community has minted over 3 million NFT domains, which will soon be tradeable on the Dmail marketplace—an exciting development for us.

Dmail is a leading SocialFi project by user activity and transaction volume, with over 300 partners. We support web2 emails and cross-chain messaging to wallets and DIDs. Recently, we launched our Subscription Hub, which hundreds of projects and influencers use to send messages directly to their subscribers' wallets or DIDs.

Additionally, we are building a giveaway section embedded in the Dmail dApp, allowing partners to access our massive user base while adding significant benefits to Dmailers, particularly those who stake the $DMAIL token.

Why We Chose to deploy on ICP

The relationship between Dmail and ICP goes back several years when our founding team recognized the innovative concepts and technical implementation presented by ICP when it first launched on the testnet. Our vision was and remains to create a killer application for the Web3 world that would gain mass adoption through user empowerment. Just as the traditional internet's origin lies in email and messaging services, we believe the same can be true for the Web3 world.

However, the biggest challenge back then was to incentivize the widespread use of decentralized messaging as a daily application. It was impractical to make users pay gas fees for every email, and we also needed to ensure user email and cloud storage privacy and security through decentralized storage. These challenges troubled our team for a long time until we discovered ICP. Its low reverse gas fee model and Canisters perfectly solved our problems. That's why we initially chose to deploy Dmail on ICP, and it remains the most obvious reason for our continued presence on ICP today.

On a personal level, I also love the ICP chain. Features such as Chain Key Technology, Network Nervous System (NNS), Canister Smart Contracts, Internet Identity, the Reverse Gas Model, Data Storage and Efficiency, and Sustainability are all tremendous technical achievements.

What I Think of TON

The TON blockchain has demonstrated impressive traction recently, establishing itself as a leading Layer 1 blockchain. Key developments include a $115 million community incentive program aimed at rewarding users and developers, which has significantly boosted engagement and activity within the ecosystem. Moreover, the integration with Telegram, leveraging its vast user base, has propelled TON’s adoption and market performance.

Dmail Network is proud to have partnered closely with the TON ecosystem, launching our Dmail dApp on TON. We’ve collaborated with Oyster Labs, and this will drive mobile blockchain adoption, enhance our communication solutions, and strengthen our overall position in the market.

The Challenges of Building on Each Blockchain in the Space

ICP

Building on ICP, a non-EVM compatible chain, presents challenges such as the need for developers to learn Motoko and Rust, limited mature tools, and a smaller community. However, these challenges also offer opportunities: specialized training can create niche expertise, contributing to tool development can drive innovation, and active participation can strengthen the community. To drive adoption, we should emphasize ICP's strengths like high scalability, low latency, and on-chain storage, which are ideal for applications requiring quick transactions and integrated data management. By focusing on these areas, we can fully leverage ICP's potential.

TON

Building on TON (The Open Network) involves several challenges, such as the necessity for developers to learn Fift and FunC, its unique programming languages, and the relatively immature tooling and libraries available. Additionally, TON has a smaller developer community, which can limit support and collaboration opportunities.

However, these challenges come with significant opportunities: specialized training can build niche expertise, contributing to the development of tools can drive ecosystem growth, and active community engagement can strengthen the network. To drive adoption, we should highlight TON's strengths, including its high transaction throughput, robust sharding capabilities, and advanced smart contract features. By addressing these challenges strategically, we can fully utilize TON’s potential and drive its adoption in the blockchain space.
